The Neonatal Infection Group B Strep,
Myth or Reality in the Dominican Republic?
Pequeñas Vidas has the honor to present a conference about the neonatal infection Group B Strep in the Dominican Republic. The event will be held on the 27th of November in the auditorium of the Universidad Iberoamericana de Santo Domingo.
It is intended as an opportunity to initiate a discourse about the infection’s impact to the health of Dominican mothers-to-be and babies, and potential effective and cost-efficient screening and prevention measures. This educational opportunity will focus on the sharing of information between local professionals and international entities. The event is addressed to the public and private health care arenas, as well as companies with an interest in the EGB screening and prevention process.
The conference was planned in coordination with the Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Society of Perinatalogy, Group B Strep International and the U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo.
You can learn more about GBS at Group B Strep International and the Centers for Disease Control.

World Prematurity Awareness Day
November 17th is World Prematurity Awareness Day to raise awareness about the serious problem of premature birth. **15 million** babes - more than 1 in 10 - are born too soon each year around the world. One million die each year from complications from prematurity, and many more live with lifelong disabilities or with problems learning, seeing and hearing. Feasible and cost-effective care does exist, though, to help these babies be born on time.
Pequeñas Vidas has the honor to take part in this movement against prematurity. We support the efforts of various organizations around the world such as March of Dimes in the U.S., Bliss in the U.K. and others to promote World Prematurity Day.
Help us raise awareness about these babies and the prevention of premature birth. Visit our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Learn more at the World Prematurity Day Facebook page and at the report Born Too Soon.
